BSGI for the study was conducted using a Dilon 6800 gamma camera, high resolution, small field of view gamma camera optimized to perform BSGI. With BSGI, the patient receives a pharmaceutical agent analysis that is absorbed by all cells of the body. Because of their rate of increase in metabolic activity of breast cancer cells absorb a greater amount of an agent to track the normal surrounding tissue and generally appear as ‘hot spots’ BSGI image.Compared with mammography, which demonstrated a sensitivity of 71percent, BSGI improved the detection of malignant lesions, high risk, especially if used in clinical work in patients with negative or indeterminate mammograms. The authors determined the contribution of BSGI to be more profitable than other, more expensive imaging techniques such as positron emission mammography or magnetic resonance imaging (PEM) at a cost of $ 303.34 for each procedure and diagnosis of disease for every $ 2,431.57 spent in this study.
In this retrospective study, BSGI has been used in a total of 2004 patients. Pathology or follow-up image was available for 1042 cases with 250 positive and 792 negative conclusions. BSGI demonstrated an overall sensitivity of 91 % and a specificity of 77 %.
Breast Imaging specific range (BSGI) contributes significantly to the detection of malignant or high-risk patients with negative or indeterminate mammographic findings, according to results of a multicenter study presented at the annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) .
In this retrospective study was performed BSGI imaging mode as auxiliary four institutions and was compared with biopsy or follow-up imaging. The biopsy results were classified as (malignant or high risk, such as ADH, ALH, LCIS), positive or negative (benign and requires no further action). Imaging studies were classified as positive (BI-RADS 4 or 5), negative (BI-RADS 1 or 2) or indeterminate (BI-RADS 0 or 3).
