The brain scans showed that 197 participants, 16 percent had small brain damage or stroke, called silent strokes. People who engage in moderate to intense exercise were 40 percent less likely to have silent strokes that people who have no regular physical activity. The result remained the same after the researchers took into account other cardiovascular risk factors such as hypertension, high cholesterol and smoking.
